The vast majority of music I buy on Bandcamp tends to consist of electronic stuff, long, droning minimalist things, heavy metal, jazz-affiliated music and assorted varieties of psychedelic/noise rock, but on this occasion, I thought I would put together a mix concentrating on something with more immediate appeal - namely, SONGS.  

By which I mean, recordings with actual singing and lyrics and verses and choruses. That kind of thing. At the risk of sounding self-important, I believe this is an area in which I can claim to be pretty discerning, at this point in my life. 

Probably 80% of the time, when I press 'play' on something new based around discernable lyrics and conventional song-writing, it's off again within a few lines of the main vocal coming in. No disrespect to the musicians concerned in most cases, but - been there, done that, and I just don't need it in my life anymore.

Perhaps I'm actually a recovering song addict? Who knows. But that's probably a rumination for another time (and a private one, more than likely).

Like most recovering addicts though, I DO still like to indulge in a good song every now and then, when the spirit moves me.  And, by thusly moving my spirit, I believe that the selections which follow have all reached a pretty high bar.  In fact, they have all brought me great joy, and if I can pass on a small portion of it to you, all will be good with the world, for three or four minutes at least.
