something we create in every moment (june 2026)
"Abolition is not some distant future but something we create in every moment when we say no to the traps of empire and yes to the nourishing possibilities dreamed of and practiced by our ancestors and friends. Every time we insist on accessible and affirming health care, safe and quality education, meaningful and secure employment, loving and healing relationships, and being our full and whole selves, we are doing abolition. Abolition is about breaking down things that oppress and building up things that nourish. Abolition is the practice of transformation in the here and now and the ever after.”
― Eric A. Stanley, Captive Genders: Trans Embodiment and the Prison Industrial Complex
Sweet beams of light and stardust,
Whether person, plant, or any number of more-than-human friend, we live our best lives in solidarity with one another. When our skin brushes with poison oak, we thank mugwort for growing nearby to help soothe our inflammation. While freshwater becomes increasingly polluted from extractive industry & overdevelopment, we learn lessons in biofiltration from our banana tree comrades while simultaneously working towards composting underlying systemic issues. As our neighbors, friends, families, and many of us face state repression, we plant ourselves anywhere we can and show up for one another. We send love to the memory of beautiful Tortuguita and their devotion to the Stop Cop City forest encampment just outside of Atlanta, to the Fairy Creek Blockade on Vancouver Island, to liberatory organizers Sylvia Rivera & Marsha P Johnson & Miss Major for not only the Stonewall riots but their many years of community activism that followed, and to the many forms of resistance, resilience, and riot that have changed the world. Speaking towards Fairy Creek and the presence of Indigiqueer kin on the frontlines of climate justice, Aya Clappis speaks that “we need the land back to be liberated the same way that we need systems of policing to be abolished to be free… and that’s tied to Black liberation, that’s tied to queer liberation.” Blessed Pride Month. Be gay, do crime, and we’ll see you en la lucha.
